Communicating Effectively about Donation – Improving Decisions and Outcomes with Black Americans (CEaD-I DO)
Building on 30 years of research with thousands of families considering organ and tissue donation, Communicating Effectively about Donation-Improving Donation Outcomes with Black Americans (CEaD-I DO) is a new eLearning program for Donation Professionals (DPs).
The CEaD-I DO teaches effective communication techniques and important informational language when leading authorization discussions with Black families.
This web-based training program has been specifically designed for OPO Donation Professionals to improve the quality and effectiveness of discussions about organ donation with the family decision makers of Black patients.
In this training, you will be introduced to effective communication techniques, critical task skills, and important informational language for use during authorization discussions with Black families.
The American Board for Transplant Certification (ABTC) has approved this educational offering for up to 8 Category I Continuing Education Points for Transplant Certification (CEPTCs). There is no charge to you for these credits.
How is the CEaD-I DO training structured?
The CEaD-I DO training is broken up into three modules: Communication Skills Module, Task Skills Module, and Scenarios Module.
Communication Skills Module
Using video and text examples, the Communication Skills Module introduces you to the 13 research-based communication skills required to effectively communicate with families about donation.
Task Skills Module
The Task Skills Module features the 8 task-oriented skills you will need to effectively respond to the unique needs of Black families during donation conversations.
This module instructs you in rapport building, how to deal with donation myths, and what information is specifically of concern to Black families as they consider the donation option.
Scenarios Module
The Scenarios Module consists of three simulated donation conversations between Black families and Donation Professionals.
Learners will have the opportunity to practice their skills by recording and uploading video responses throughout the scenarios.
